Hey everyone, my wife and I are new to saltwater and reefs. Our tank is 29 gallons, currently cycling with some damsels in it. We plan on adding soft corals and anemone down the road. For the tank, will two 530gph circulation punps be sufficient for soft corals and anemone as well as for the fish? Also, how many fish can we safely stock? For my freshwater, the 1 inch per gallon rule has been what I used, but I don't know if that holds true for salt water.

The 1" rule does not apply. It all depends on your equipment and what fish you choose. For an anemone you will need some pretty good lighting.

Best advices is....

1. Research heavily before you do anything. For instance, cycling with fish is not good. Very hard on the fish. There will come a time when you no longer want the damsels. They are not great tank mates.
2. Buy once. If you start buying for what you think you want now, you most likely will buy again as you learn more.

Leave the tank as is for now. Read all you can here and elsewhere until you are sure of the type of tank you want. Then plan your equipment accordingly.

It will also help to find someone who is close who can help you get started the right way.

Yea definitely , and there is a slew of members in your area

Yes, definitely agree with everyone! I'm a newbie too. Tranks about 4 months now. Just a nano 20gal. I asked a lot!!! Of questions. Everyone here is awesome with answering anything. No question is a stupid one when you're new. I also made frequent trips to the lfs to ask questions.

+1 on all the above and ^^^^ what a smart newbie she is!!
:)

Seriously, it's very difficult to answer your questions without knowing which fish you're interested in as they all grow different in size, how much live rock you have in the tank, if you want coral, etc....

Your power heads will be fine for now, but as Rich said, it's a waste to buy twice!
Damsels are MEAN too!

Keep asking and be as specific as you can with your question for the best answers.
Oh and Welcome to ARC!

Welcome to the hobby and ARC! I'm fairly new to the hobby but may be able to help you out. Located in Roswell as well. Have a 34gal Redsea max 130D. I think two powerheads will be plenty. I currently run one and keep a bta and soft corals without a problem. As far as fish goes, you can add 5-7 in a 29gal depending on the size of the fish (bioload), care requirements, and temperament. I have around 7 in my tank. Feel free to pm me if you would like to swing by sometime!

Thanks,
Kyle
