Thanks for letting me join! I don't have time to research, big project at work. So, quick questions..... What is used for quarantine on sick fish, and are there good treatments for ich that won't kill every invertebrate and microorganism in the tank. I have a 150 tank that I ran on canister filters for about a year. Just got a refugium that is truly awesome but I need quieter pumps LOL. I have about 15 small fish, misc. crustacea, an urchin and 2 anemonae. The rock is thriving, even the apatasia, the harware stores here are pulling their lye off the shelves because its selling like mad for drug production, DMT users, and meth too maybe. What can I say, it's Albuquerque......

There are no in tank treatments for Ich. You must pull fish out and leave the tank fallow for 72ish days while treating ALL fish in QT (either copper or hyposalinity). Otherwise, keep fish fed and minimize stress and usually they will pull through.

Finally got the read done on Q tanks. I have everything I need as I have rescued a couple tanks from people on the move. The ich was introduced because I did not have a quarantine. It originated with a purchase of four domino damsels. Two have passed after relocation to my smaller 40-50?? gallon tank. The water quality has improved dramatically since adding the sump/refugium, but most of the fish have weathered the ich situation quite well. Fallow for 72 days, I guess/hope that's just fish only. I have a couple 20 gallon tanks. So two for damsels, a couple gobies and the mandarin, and convert the larger 40ish tank to Q a coral beauty, and sailfin and such that need large living space?. I have access to unlimited di h20, two high capacity canisters and and large aquaclear sitting idle and dry right now (used). Should I sterilize all this stuff first before mixing up water and such? I also have centrifugal external pumps, three 55 gallon plastic drums and 30 gallon, so I can transfer water all over the place. Given all this does it sound like a plan? Or could I do something more expedient using the barrels? The 30 can hold all of my rock, I use the large barrels to remove water that I want to put back. This weekend I'm fabricating a steel stand for the 150 so I can get the sump and accessories underneath, it'll be on four casters and six 3.5 inch leveling pads too (about 1600 pounds soaking wet....

I had the same problem a few months ago, this helped me - http://www.wikihow.com/Treat-Tropical-Fish-with-White-Spot-Disease-(Ich)">http://www.wikihow.com/Treat-Tropical-Fish-with-White-Spot-Disease-(Ich)

Interesting stuff. The problem went away after I did a partial chnage and I have a sump filtration system now. But I keep an eye out. I have a couple domino damsels, they seems to harbor the parasites, but dont want to just kill them. keeping good water seems to be key.
