I have a stubborn nitrate problem, stuck at .10 ppm for several weeks. I added a bag of Seachem Purigen a month ago and it has not worked yet. I do a 10-15% water change every 10 days and change my filter sock every three or four days. My tds meter shows my RO/DI water at .001 ppm.

Any other reputable nitrate removal products out there? I don't think I'm disciplined enough to dose Vodka.

Seachem Matrix may be an option....?

I've had Matrix in the tank from the very beginning and it was washed when I changed out my sump a few weeks ago.

The substrate would be difficult to get rid of right now, that's pretty labor intensive with a new born around.

wait, 0.1 or 10?

0.1 dont even bother caring.

10, still not really worth stressing about IMO. Do larger or more frequent water changes.

Other options include.

Seachem matrix
Carbon dosing
Biopellets
Algea scrubber

EnderG60 beat me to it. Let's confirm the concentration.

If it's 10 PPM, it's higher than desired, but not earth-shattering. If that's the case I'd up my water change frequency to 7 from 10 days if possible.

Otherwise it sounds like you're doing all the right stuff.

What size tank is it?
