My nitrates have recently gone up to 20ppm, I just did a water 10% water change a week ago. I have a 40 gallon corner and running sump with protein skimmer. So im not real sure why the spike happened, what would be the besgt way to lower them back down, partial water changes? Any suggestions would be great, thanks ahead of time for the help.

charlie your corals are doing good though, they are opening up and looking good. Thanks again

20 is not bad i would not worry about it, if it goes over 30 then i would start to worry, but as said before water changes will help , good skimmer, possibly a refugium.

Yes, a refugium will help. Also make sure you are cleaning your filter sock or replacing your filter pad material every few days.
