Hi, I just got a Aquapod 24 (thanks Sam from Aqua Buys) and going to be setting it up today. I am wondering what others on ARC are running in the Aquapod 24. I am going to start out with a FOWLR, and maybe once it is more established start to get into some easy reefing. I have been having trouble finding a reliable protein skimmer that will fit in the rear chamber of the Aquapod 24, so for right now I am going to run, LR, LS and Purgien (to help offset the lack of a protein skimmer). I am going to keep a builers log, and will post it tonight along with some photos.

Thanks,

Adam

Well FWIW here is my opinion.

The tank is not huge so the number of fish you can have in it for a fowlr will be few.

The best small tanks that I have seen again in my opinion have had a stack of live rock with softies that move in the current and a variety of inverts and one or two cool fish.

This way you or folks that come over and see it have multiple points of interest.

An example would be the small tank left of the register at CAP BAY if you ever saw that one.

I have an Aquapod 24 and it is not too bad of a tank. I would suggest forgetting the skimmer for a tank this small since most of all of the ones available are trash anyway and if you keep up a weekly partial water change, you will be fine. the lighting is fair for a CF...just make sure you use Sunpak...good bulbs for the money. It'll run about 2.7 watts per gallon if I remember correctly. You will be limited to softies for corals but zoos do thrive also. Just keep them close to the top. Drop your heater in the back left chamber and it'll keep all the ugly stuff from being seen. Make sure you run Puragen, Phosguard and some activated carbon to help keep the water in good shape. Those can go into the right chamber. keep the glass clean but the rounded edges will pose some problems with the conventional mag floats. You may want to find a "nano mag" to help you with this. Cycle your lights...actinics on one hour prior to full daylights and one hour after they turn back off. Moon lights can run non stop 24/7. water evap will be limited because of the canopy. After you get used to everything, you can always upgrade your lighting. Good luck!

I bought a used 24G Aquapod. Transferred LR from a barely cycled 6gal Eclispe into it on Mar 1st. Some what of a log at my homepage if you care to look. On Skimmers I decided against any of the skimmers which would fit into the back. I have converted a 75G sump skimmer to HOB. It does really great skimming but bubbles are still a bit of an issue I havent resolved. Right now I turn it off for visitors or myself sometimes. Bubbles clear in 5 min. I have yet to create some DIY permanent HOB box of some kind. Still debating on how and whether I want to include a Refugium in the "behind the tank" rack. I could do a sump I guess, but I also like to see the refugium so I might make it a "side mount refugium" with the skimmer towards the rear included in the box. Skimmer would be before the refugium and then dump into the tank.

Anyway...

Overall I like the tank even tho it does take daily care. Water top off, dosing of Kent A & B, a little iodine and strontium from time to time. And blowing those dang bubbles off LOL. Im in the high green stage right now on the newest LR.
