So I've been presented an opportunity to buy an Oceanrunner 6500. Has anybody had any experience with Oceanrunner pumps? If you have, I'd like to know how you felt about it's overall performance, ease of obtaining parts (if needed), heat output, etc.

I bought a new OR 6500 two years ago. I have used it as the main return on my 150 DT/40 breeder/ 100 gallon sump. It works perfectly and I am very happy with it.

When I bought mine new it was $120. I think they are double that now.

Thanks Stacy. So a new one for $70 would be considered a deal huh?

I bought and ran a new 3500 as my main return pump. Pump is cool and fairly quiet (much better than QuietOne pump). However, after 4-5 months, the pump would stop/lock-up. A thorough cleaning would get maybe 3-4 weeks of operation until it stopped again. I need a pump with greater reliability/lower maintenance, and purchased an eheim. The eheim is more powerful and quieter than the oceanrunner (it is more expensive also). Also, it has proven to be more reliable. After 6 months as my main return pump, no problems.

The best return pump I have ever used. I have a 6500 on my 90 throttled back, running a fuge, also throttled back. As I plan my upgrade to a 180 the 6500 is right in the middle of the plans!!!! 2 years running nonstop no problems so far.

I had one that came with my aqua medic skimmer and it has worked great for me. Now my neighbor has it and its working really great.

I have one and would recommend it....for the right price. When I bought mine, you couldn't find a better pump for the money. That was a few years ago though. Now they have drastically raised the prices, and in their pricepoint, there are all other kinds of options.
