Hello all,

@DiefsReef pointed me over here from R2R. I am hoping to meet many local reefers and buy/sell/trade coral and livestock with you guys over the coming years.

This tank got wet on March 29th, 2020. The live rock was running for a year before that in a 10g tank.

Equipment Rundown:
  • 1x old LED blackbox where you can control the blues and the whites with knobs on the top. I eyed balled it when I first set it up, it's mounted in such a way that I can't change it unless in mount it. As the knobs are on the top of the unit
  • 1x 175W mogul 14k metal halide
  • Seaside Aquatics ES5 skimmer, more or less it's a bubble magnus curve 5
  • BRS mini reactor, runs GFO or carbon, having been running gfo for the past month or so
  • 40g breeder DT
  • 29g sump/coral fuge (currently no corals in the coral fuge, anyone have xenia, kenya, colt or any other softy they wish to part with?)
    • coral fuge lit by a ??watt power compact (yes it's quite old, grows coraline algae like a champ, fuge is covered, 10k bulb)
  • 2x 150W Eheim JAGER Aquarium Heater
    • heater controller coming someday
  • jebao SLW-20 wave maker (AI Nero copycat basically)
    • highly recommend
  • Jebao DCP-4000 DC return pump
    • highly recommend
  • 200 GPD Aqua RX 6 stage water saving RO/DI

Welcome @Count Krunk glad you made it to the club!

Hello All, the tank has grown up since the intro post! So hs my activity on the forum.

Will capture updated pics soon. I’m dealing with aiptisia now and will have to dose chloroquine phosphate to kill it.

Everything I've read says CP will be hard on the rest of the tank as well. To the point of killing most corals and inverts. Is that not the case? I've got a hugh aiptasia issue at the moment in one tank but I have some mushrooms that I cant get off the rocks. I woul dlove to nuke with CP but dont want to lose my favorite shrooms :)

You can see on a build thread on humble fish where it worked and what the impacts were. I can remove all the fish and most of the corals. I’ll link the thread when I get to my pc this evening.

I’ll be removing a bunch of stuff into a temp 40breeder while this is working.

I dont think its an option for me because I cant get the shrooms to let go of the rock. The rock is all glued one piece in that tank so i'd have to start breaking things off. Probably going to have to drop several Peppermints in to get it under control. Nudies are not doing the job..

Keep us updated on your progress. I had not heard of using CP this way before. The thread on it is a little scary but it is a lower dose than is used for fish QT.

I did some math and I think it came out to 1.96 g per dose. Plan on dosing 3 times. I’ll document what gets left in.

the huge nepthia is staying in. It’s attached to a rock that needs to have the aiptisia die

Light as well as your bio filtration will break CP down, but it's hard to say how fast that will occur. I would expect by the third dose you'll have a higher concentration than you started with.

Unfortunately, the chloroquine phosphate was at a higher concentration then I thought it was. I had all corals I could remove removed and in a 20g tank, temporarily. I had to go out of town for a few days so I added all corals back to the DT. Turns out, the chloroquine phosphate was still too high of a level. And eventually all corals died. Naturally, I was gutted. I took a break for here and www.humble.fish for a while after that.

Eventually, I traded the fish into Nemos for cash and broke the tank down.

It was hard to tell from the pics I posted, but there were literally thousands of aiptisias. So i was up up a creek without a paddle either way.

I finished out a room in my basement to server as fish room/my chill space. I am currently plotting a 135g high tech planted, and somewhat in tandem a 125g reef tank. I'll start a thread for the reef once I have some progress to show. These builds will be systems focused with an emphasis on easy mgmt and stable conditions. Will see how they actually end up haha.

I will for sure have a small coral qt, not dealing with these pest anemones again.

Is there a post count before you can create threads in want to buy/trade/sell forums?

I have qty 3 coral vue 400w electronic ballasts I am trying to trade or sell, i want to to run 250w on the future 125g.
