Ok explain to me how I can go the my LFS and see a nice fish for lets say $45.00 then I can go to some of the reputable online stores and find that same fish for $29.99. Some of them have minimum orders, but if you get a few people together man you can really save some cash. Nothing against or sponsors, what I have as far as livestock to date have come from a few stores. I have always wanted to know how they are able to be so much less.

it depends on the size of the company and the volume of livestock moved. The lfs in question may pay the same as online seller does for wholesale but if they do more sales in volume thy can lower prices

The LFS has a lot more overhead expense. On on-line retailer doesn't need to maintain a store front.

there is a value added with LFS too. If you pay a hold amount (work a deal with them) they will likely care for the animal as it acclimates to the shipping, thereby protecting you from the hassle of getting a replacement. Plus you can never beat personal inspection! Some shops even have attractive cashiers or customers. Most of the added expense is running cost though, it just happens to increase the value too.

Other added benefits are, stock that is within driving distance. Yes I want to save some money where I can but if I don't buy from the LFS they will not be there when I need them. Beside, I would rather my hard earned cash help someone I know then someone I will never see in my life.

Free enterprise . One thing I never complain about if price. If I don't like the price I don't shop.

Understood, the overhead cost is something they have to worry about. You are correct is paying for that additional personal touch and the free advise they give you when your having issues.

Your comparison is incomplete.

Your must compare the price of that fish from your LFS to that same fish online store's price plus shipping.

In addition, you run the risk of the fish dying or getting lost or delayed in shipping or having a disease or other problem (like not eating) from the online store's. At the LFS you could see how and what the fish is being given to eat whereas you cannot with a etailer.

SO take your chances if you wish. Personally, I buy all of my fish locally (from members getting rid of theirs or from an LFS) and now you know why.

+1.

if you can order enough to get free shipping thats where u can save money.. but there is the hassle and the risk of shipping....

... and if you're meeting a minimum order to get the free shipping, all by yourself, you run the risk of doing too much at once.

Some (not all, but some) e-tailers don't even maintain their own livestock. They have livestock drop-shipped from a wholesaler, so they never actually see or handle the livestock at all.

At the LFS, as mentioned, you can see it before you buy it, you can find out how long it has been there and how it was treated (quarantined etc.) With an e-tailer a lot of those variables can be vastly different. Some are good, some... not so much.

Ya pays your money and ya takes your chances. If you don't have your own quarantine system, I certainly would be careful about ordering online.

But hey, I'm biased ;)
