Other than the vortech battery back up or a generator, what other options are there?

I know dropping air bubbles in can be a short term fix? How long will those go for?

Any other methods for keeping oxygen in the water?

those are your best bet!

an inverter for a car battery works too!

This is what I have. It will run my return pump.

If all else fails you can use your fish net. Pull it through the water it will help with the 02

An airstone can be a long term fix. The air bubbles move the water in the tank, and gas exchange occurs at the surface then. It will last forever if need be (provided their is enough air to move appreciable amount of water).

You could always drop in an APC battery backup unit. I have a n BX1300G for my computer system and it will keep my two monitors and computer system running for a little while. You can plug just the essentials into the backup outlets and the others will shut down when the power goes out.

Another vote for a plain old ups. A 1500VA model will set you back less than $120 on a decent sale and should power a basic pump/powerhead and heater for at least 12 hours or more.

Some models allow expansion of battery capacity as well, for the truly paranoid or those outside the metro area where power's been known to be out for a day or more in storm season.

As the APC units go, you need to buy one of the higher end ones to run the pumps, etc of our tanks. The typical grey brick under your office desk wont cut it.

I have an APC to run one of my Koralias and then I also bought a couple of those battery powered air pumps which work great. I have lasted for a couple of days that way with no issues. My biggest gap is heat, but my tank is in my basement so it takes longer to get cold down there.
