I bought a Deep Blue Sea 60G Cube. It came with an overflow kit. The overflow is loud and kind of "flushes" every minute or 2. The Overflow PVC is not adjustable. The hole in the cap of the pvc drain is rather small. If I make it bigger do you think it would help?

Thanks.

what size pipe is the elbow at the top. we had one that was super loud and we shoved the drain hose from the skimmer in the double elbows at the top and it is not as lound now... man bean animals are so much nicer

The hole in the cap is to break the siphon (which is what is causing the flushing). A larger hole may help, as can adjusting the depth and angle at which the overflow enters the sump.

In the end, anything other than the Herbie / Bean Animal type overflows can be noisy and a serious pain to tune in.

You can also stick some type of tubing no matter if rigid or flex down in the hole of the elbow and that has been know to fix it as well. Try different depths, ie push in further and see what happens. Or put a ball valve on the pump and turn down the flow is another way.

Thanks for the help folks. I made the hole larger on the cap and it seems to have helped. I will wait and see.....
