I found a really nice skimmer at a really great price, but it is over-sized for my tank... Is there any problem doing this? What I'm asking is...

Will it hurt my tank to over-skim it? Is over-skimming a bad thing?

Once i plumb in my sump i'll be over-skimming. I think it just allows you to keep more fish then.

Shouldn't be a problem unless you want to do a lagoonal system that likes a bit more nutrient.

You can always put it on a timer... I don't typically recommend this but I know people who have done it.

Bigger question is, will it fit in your sump?

Bubble king mini sweet. I try to skim the life right out of the tank sometimes. Never any ill effects.

There's no such thing as overskimming! Have at it and keep that water clean!

Charlie is dead on: once the oversized skimmer has done its deed, the water will be clean and it will stop skimming. As soon as some poop enters the water column, the skimmer fires back up.
