Ozone

I just added an ozone generator and reactor to my system. Anyone else run ozone? I have been running it for only a few days but my skimming production has been cut in half. My orp before the addition of the reactor stayed around 300, not trying to chase numbers but I would like to see if adding ozone will make that much of a difference. If not, I will still keep it just because of how the set up looks.

Water clarity was the only difference I ever notice but I was dosing small amounts. Orp never got over 360.

Ozone has very specific biochemical prpoperties and actions in saltwater that can promote skimmer, and others that can inhibit it. The applicationm of the ozone is where the benefit will come about. How are you using it? How much?

I'm using an ultralife ultra zone 360 uv generator. Have it running through my reef oct. reactor, then a mrc carbon reactor for my fluid. Water dumps back into the sump.

Controlled by my apex. This generator is an on/off device. No dial.

360 mg/hr? Thats a lot. And how are you getting the water from the skimmer through the FMC? I'm not quite understanding that.

Edit: never mind. I read that wrong. I thought it said reef octopus skimmer. Not reactor.

That's still a ton of ozone going in. Really the system size isn't a big factor to ozone input (as relative to reactor size and flow). You're putting 360 mg/hr and only at an orp of 300 mv? That seems way off. Are you using an air dryer?

It's a uv ozone generator? Wow, I didn't think they were used at all anymore. From what I recall of them, they fell to corona discharge ozonizers due to production issues.

Regardless, I'm not familiar with these ozonizers in real life use, so I can't offer anything aside from practical ozone use. Good luck.
