Paint or Stain/Poly Inside of Stand

I recently bought the stand and canopy from jj_ocean that is stained on the outside but has no finish on the inside. Since he had his tank plumbed through the wall to his basement he didn't need to worry so much about leaks or spills but I need to put a sump under it. I'm going to add a piece of 3/4" oak plywood to reinforce the bottom. Should I use paint or stain on the inside and does it every surface on the inside need to be done or just the bottom half?

I would paint the whole inside of it white.

That's what I did (oil based kilz).

I did poly on the inside walls, then poured bar top acrylic in the bottom of mine. Works great.
