paint

I am a big fan of the 2 part epoxy floor paint that you can find at most hardware stores. Depending how the stand is built, i can hold moderate spills for a short time (until you can hit with a Wet/Dry Vac). I had a leak of about 3 gallons that did not make it to the floor.

You would want to use a sealer first that would prevent water absorption like kilz or zinser they are station blockers also but they will seal the wood. Quick drying also, and then sand and and you can use an oil based enamel paint.

Sherwin Williams makes a two part water based epoxy that would be a good choice. Water based epoxies have almost completely replaced all other high VOC paints for interior use. There is at least one manufacturer who offers a two part water base epoxy with a floral scent . You should also caulk the joints between panels before painting. If the smell is not an issue, use an elastomeric paint that will move with the wood and could span the joints in the stand.
