To all maroon clownfish experts, how do I go abouts pairing two juvenile maroon clownfish. I currently have the smaller one in a container because the larger one tore up its fins very badly. Any tips?

You'll have to keep them separated, but in the same tank until she stops killing him. I would let him out of the net and return him for safety when she gets too aggressive. Hopefully it won't take too long.

Glad to see jamescook join it. He's the resident clown expert.

Did you buy these clowsn together, or at least from the same tank? How long have you had them? I had the best luck buying two clowns from the same tank, same store, same time. They were juveniles, of course and hanging out in the same corner before I purchased them.

Ok how often do i repeat this process. Right now his fins are torn up. Also i think they are still both males

I was able to do it with an older female and a juvenal. Here's the thread where I went through the process.

great link... do you have a picture of the egg crate container you made? was it something you put on the sandbed or did it hang off the rim of the tank glass?

When i paired mine they were equally old and the one that acted more agressive after about a day i seperated from the other with a peice of acrylic right down the center of my old 20G. 2-3 days later I havent seen fighting like that from them in over a year so far.

Edit: One will turn female, after that happens stuff usually calms down. They fight to see who will become the dominant female; happens even more when size doesnt already establish this order.

+1. I had a 3 year old female and added 6 month or so juvenile. They slept in the anemone together the first night.

Sorry no, I don't have a picture of the egg crate cage. It's hard to see in the picture of the Kritter Keeper, but I attached it to the side with a suction cup holder from a MJ900. I also used it to hold the egg crate up near the top. I just used tie wraps to hold the cage together.

I had one Maroon for a year and then purchased a second tiny one. Size didn't help him much. It took me 3 months to get them to pair. I used one of those little floating breeders and kept him in there. When she stopped attacking the plastic I tried to release him and she'd destroy him. I'd pull him back out before she could do perm damage but it was stressful. That took 4 attempts in those 3 months before she let him live in the little cave at the bottom of the tank. After awhile she came around to him, though they are more like an old couple than newly weds.
