I have been attempting to pair my 1 year old maroon clown with a young small healthy friend. It has been a month and she still nips at the floating breeder the small maroon is in, however, the nipping is less and not as aggressiveness. I know sometimes they just don't match up, but will continued patience possibly have good results or should I move the little maroon into my 120 (with a pair of false percs) and see if that works out better?

I have a pair of yellow striped maroons and it probably only took a few days for mine to pair up. Lots of aggression by the female during this time. The size difference probably had a lot to do with it. The male is quite a bit smaller than my female.

Also to add...maybe move them into a smaller tank for a while?? Just be aware she will beat him up a bit but nothing serious.

they are in my small tank (25 cube with shared sump to my 120) and the female is over twice as long. I may try this afternoon again but last time the little guy was ripped to shreds and she wasn't letting up on him

Here is how I went about pairing mine:

Just a follow up. The two in my tank were similar in size difference to the ones in budsreef tank. They are both alive and living together. The smaller one has taken up home in a little cave on the bottom of the tank with the larger one keeping her post by the nem. At feeding they occasionally rub against each other but that's their only viewed interaction. Not much nipping at all these days. Perhaps in time some lovin! The smaller one is starting to get his gold stripe which should be quite nice. I'm a sucker for maroons. So patience does indeed pay off if anyone else is trying to get maroons to live together.
