pc bulbs/ballasts.

I feel like I should know the answer to this, but....I was going to buy a retro fit PC kit (used) but my main use for it would be on a smaller tank. Will the ballast be able to power the smaller bulb (properly) kinda like an incandescent fixture, or is it's output specific.

It's a 96W ballast and I'd need to power a 65W or maybe less bulb.

from what i know that ballast will overrun a lower watt bulb. it will probably work but more bulb changes and probably a fire hazard. if you can get the part num. you can find the makers info on it and this will tell you all the bulbs its designed to run.
