I put it in tank to police Aptasia. At first, I thought it was just picking up some food left or something else. It ate my acan colony (entire colony), chalices, hammer and lobos. Woke up early this mooring without light, I saw it was eating another acan :mad2::mad2::mad2:. It must be removed from the tank. Hopefully I will catch it tonight and would fry .

Too many shrimp bear the name "peppermint shrimp". The aiptasia eating variety that are reef safe are collected from certain localles. You need to find a source that can confirm thats where theyre from.

Are you sure it's a real peppermint? I've never had a problem with mine.....plenty of horror stories out there though. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

I'm sure we can find you a beautiful wrasse to take care of that shrimp problem.
It's like hiring a hit-man. It just only costs you $30 insteald of $30,000

Make sure it's one that swims to the Rocky soundtrack. If it took out 4 corals, he might have a bruiser on his hands.

mystery wrasse will take care of it easily

the ones that eat aptasia are lysmata wurdemanni. The others are known to pick at LPS if not fed.

Finally, it took 5 minutes to catch it by using this DIY trap

I had 4 that were fine and I put a bubble tip anemone in there and they started eating it! I had to remove them as well

Sounds like you got Camel Shrimp instead of Peppermint Shrimp (google them both).

They are similar in appearance, somewhat, but they are VERY different. Peppermints are fine, Camels aren't coral safe at all.

Does Camel shrimp eat aiptasia?

My old tank had Aiptasia outbreak. They were growing everywhere like a farm. I treat corals with Aiptasia X before moving to new tank. Some tiny babies aiptasia were in new tank. I bought three of them at LFS and they were sold as Peppermints. I put two in the old tank and one in the new tank.

As the result today:

old tank: 99.9% of Aiptasia has been gone
new tank: don't see at all

mine looks similar like this

I'm every happy when I caught it.

Those look like Peppermints to me.

Camel Shrimp:

Pronounced hump on the back (hence the name)... white markings instead of the more translucent markings on the Peppermint. Those are the two easiest characteristics to notice.

As with all shrimp and crabs, you have to make sure they stay fed or they'll eat whatever they can get.

Got a nice rock with nothing on it but 100 or more pest[aptasia].What is the best way to kill them off.And be able to put rock back in.Is there a dip. They are those tiny baby ones.Man,In 7 yrs i have never had problems like this. This rock was in the holding tub full of rock, all my peps are in the tanks that are holding coral. The rock that was in the tub,i got in the 180.:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

The other night after lights out, I caught an emerald crab eating the tip of a staghorn...he is now living in the sump!

I have also heard that matted filefish will also eat zoas/acans/etc so be careful with those as well. They are a slow fish so very easy to catch though.
