pest starfish

good morning everyone,
i just fished out this small starfishe from around my frag rack. it was black in color and it arms were really thin and along. i destoryed it. my question is are there pest starfish? thanks mike:fish:

You've just likely killed a scavenging brittle star. They will eat any left over food. Fwiw, if you are searching for pests, there aren't many starfish that ARE a pest.

sounds like the one you killed was one of the good ones, a micro brittle star.

Asterina star population exploded in my tank. I bet I have removed over 250 in the last 6 months and the tank is only a 20 gal. I caught a few on zoas but couldn't see any damage, although they have wiped out most of my coralline algae.

Next time you come across something that you are unsure about, put it in a tuberware container and post a pic on the forum. If it is good, you can put it back and of it is bad, toss it.

I'd have to see a pick of that birdsnest that you PMed me about to tell what is going on.
