I stopped by my local petco store over the weekend to try and find a 55 gallon tank and 40 breeder to build sumps out of. I plan to drill both tanks for external pump and all I can find are Tera tanks with a sticker on them that says "all panels are tempered, do not drill" For those of you that did the petco $1 per gallon sale, are you seeing the same thing as me or am I going crazy?

With the Tetra brand tanks, I believe that the 55g tanks are all tempered, 40b just the bottom is tempered, and 10,20,20L, & 29g are non-tempered. That is what it was the last I checked, but they might have changed to all tempered. You might browse through the Tetra website for the aquarium kits, they answer the Q&A's pretty quickly. There might be an answer already published.

Just the bottom on the 40b.. I just bought some from this most recent sale and recklessly drilled them all. No worries. :)

Tony, you were who I was looking for!! I remember seeing a post with someone that had a car full of tanks. Did your tanks have a sticker at the bottom that said "all panels tempered, do not drill"?

Thats my understanding as well. I believe a guy on reef central shattered a 55g drilling it (all panels tempered), but the 40 breeder I picked up over the summer was only tempered on the bottom.

The thing that worries me the most about the 40 breeder is it has the same sticker as the 55. All panels tempered. Not sure if someone goofed up or they changed it

I'll check my (Orange) sticker when I get home in a bit but I'm pretty sure it said bottom panel only

This was on the 40 as well and that's why I'm concerned. I've drilled many 40 breeders before but this sticker is killing me.

We have different stickers. When did you bu yours? thanks

I think it was July 2014. Yeah your sticker would definitely make me nervous since it states all panels tempered. Maybe they have changed the tanks since last summer?

 I kind of want to fuge it and just try it. It's only 40 bucks but if it breaks then my plan for external pump with a 40 breeder goes down the drain.

Yeah I hear you, I had mine drilled for the same reason, I'm using it with a Fluval SP4 running externally and I am really happy with it so far.

Good luck if you decide to risk it!

Actually, I'm going to try another location before I go and spatter glass everywhere.

Yea yours is only on the bottom. I'll check another location to see if they have something different.

Petco 40b from the $1 per gallon sale is one of the first tanks I ever drilled! I hope they haven't changed that. Sorry for your troubles. Hope it works out for you!
