I went to have a water check done last week and it was determined that my ph was a bit low, i think it was 7.6. It was suggested that i use marine buffer to raise the ph. I followed the directions on the jar and all appeared to be going well. I did a w/c on thursday and did my testing this morning as i do every sat morning. Well my ph is now through the roof it is color purple which is not even a choice on my test kit.

Do i need to do another partial water change to bring it back down or is it to soon? or should i just not add anymore buffer and let it come down naturally?

Not sure what info i can provide to help 29g, aquaclear 50, no skimmer, temp 79.5, cleaning crew, shrimp and a 2 chromi ( one which is lost right now)

Thanks
Steve

Yes do a water change. I do not use ph buffers but I do use reef builder. Check your alk, cal and mag. By buffering your Alk your ph will raise naturally.

I'd do another water change.

What type of test kit are you using? There are only a few that people actually trust around here.

In my opinion, I'd do a couple of 10 to 20% water changes over the next few days, don't add any more buffer and don't worry about the PH at this point with your current tank size and inhabitants. In a small system, as long as you have some water movement at the surface which you should be getting from the aquaclear 50, then regular water changes should keep your PH in an OK range without adding anything else.

Its a nutrafin ph test kit. I know its not one of the better ones and thats the reason i took water sample to store last week but i did get the same reading as the electronic ph test. I was thinking about going back and getting another electronic test done before i do anything kneejerk.

Mixing water now for a change

Thanks

That might be why the pH is lagging in the first place. After you mix your NSW, test the pH of that once it's well aerated.

What brand of buffer did you use?
