phosphate experiment results

I've read many times that frozen foods often contain phosphates. I decided to conduct a small experiment to determine just how much.

I took 2 frozen cubes of ON mysis shrimp. I let them thaw in a small bowl of tank water and then tested that water. The phosphate reading was 10 while it's 0 in my tank.

This will be my new approach! To bad it took me so long to take it seriously.

did you mix it with RO to get enough "liquid" to get the sample?

I used water from my tank -- in a small bowl with the shrimp in a small piece of old net stocking.

Perhaps I should redo the test using RO water. I knew the reading from my tank was zero, so I don't expect much, if any, difference using RO water -- although it would be a more precise test.

Perhaps you might consider thawing in water (tank OR RO, does it matter?). Then dump the water and feed. I will bet youy will show less PO4.

I thaw mine in a brine shrimp net in a 1C measuring cup of RO, then just carry the net to the tank and feed.

This is an interesting idea; I think I'm going to play along and try a few different types of food.
