I just joined today so i thought i would share some pictures and things on my tank.

I purchased the tank on Craigslist its 55 gallon sea clear. It also came with stand hood light a T-12 fixture i think a marine land 350 with bio wheel filter, 2 buckets of sand and a box of coral skeletons for decorations.

Well the the tank had a lot of tiny scratches i wanted to get rid of so i used A product called Novus that the guy included for no extra cost and got to work.

It took me around 4 hours buff out a majority of the scratches.

After that i added the sand, water and salt. I also threw in some fish food to kick start the cycle.

A month passed and i decided the tank was ready to see some life as a empty tank is quite boring to watch.

I first went to marine fish. Very friendly staff but the price just seemed too high on their life stock so i put it off for another day and made a visit to pets unlimited and their livestock although considerably smaller was priced much lower and seemed to be healthy also.

I purchased 3x scarlet hermit crab , 2 chromis, and a clownfish (the nemo one).

everything has been going good they seem healthy and energetic and the water is getting clear by the day as i was getting to many micro bubbles from the water level being too low so i raised it some.

I only have the coral skeletons in the tank right now as decoration i am looking to get some live rock but might order it online as its considerably cheaper. Pardon me if i seem frugal.

These photos were shot tonight on a cheap point and shoot. I'm gonna have to take some with the SLR for more quality shots.

Its not much too look at but its better than a empty tank. I hope to keep this thread updated as i add new livestock and live rock to make for a more exquisite tank.

Welcometo the club! That tank cleaned up nicely!! You might think about getting rid of the biowheels in the filter and adding some cured liverock for the biological system. The biowheels are nitrate producers. Before you take them out though, make sure you have something else to take up the bio load.

Yes the sand was live when i got it was kept moist and placed back in the tank shortly after. I'm in the search for some live rock right now and i have some Rubbermaid containers i can place the fish in. I will also take the bio wheel recommendation into consideration when i acquire some live rock. It seems to be the most expensive next to the lighting .

there might be some members have some lr for sale or try local fish stores up there as its very reasonable up there compared to 9.00 a lb for crap rock down here lol. i got most of mine from fleabay, he he very happy with it.

Welcome to the club. I would leave the fish in the tank and cure the rock in the rubbermaid. Tank cleaned up real well, looks nice.

Welcome and you really did a good job buffing on that tank. That tank reminds me of my first marine tank. But that has been over 15 yrs ago. I didn't think they still make those anymore.

Hmmm.. looks like a great start. I did see paper towels in your pictures where u were buffing up the tank.. make sure not to use them to clean the tank on a regular basis.. it will get scratched. Also use a GOOD mag cleaner to do the inside... don't get close to the substrate!

Great start. Move slow and keep it up!

Keep your eyes open for used equipment its what make the hobby doable for me haha.

From the before pics, I was like, "What did this guy get himself into?" and from the after pics, I was like "Wow!"

Welcome!

The paper towels were for the water i got everywhere washing it out. I used a micro fiber cloth to do all the buffing out.:D
