Has anyone placed a pistol shrimp in a Bio Cube? I've heard they can crack glass tanks. Anyone ever see this?

Sounds like a myth to me. My parents have had one in their NC for 4 months so far without any issues.

I have one in my 14g BC with no problems...other than multiple sand hills from his digging.

Actually it's not a myth, but it is extremely rare and unlikely. The science behind it lies in the reason they are called "pistol" shrimp. Here is a good explaination:

"All pistol shrimp have one (Or sometimes two) oversized claw that create a cavitation bubble as it snaps shut. This bubble, very briefly reaches temperatures approaching that of the sun, about 4700 degrees Celsius. A loud "popping" noise is created as well."</em>

I know this seems crazy but it is true. The pressure wave is transmited through the water but degrades quickly as the distance increases. For this to break the glass the pistol shrimp would need to mistakenly "target" the glass, a rare incident. Here is an article about it:

I have one in a 12 gallon nano, no problems. You can hear him pop when the house is quiet.

That article is talking about mantis shrimp. However, the theory is the same. I've had both in sumps with no issues other that the noise.

Are planning to put a shrimp gobie in too?

I had one in my 30 gal and he was always active at night. He was loud enough to wake me from a dead sleep. I actually thought it was pretty cool. He made tunnels all through the live rock and stuff. I had him for over a year and only saw him a few times. I guess I had a shy one. For the longest time, I thought it was a mantis shrimp until one night I finally saw him. He looked so cool with his one big claw.
