Said problem NORMALLY occurs if you put the sand in first, then build rocks on top......right? I have never put eggcrate under my rocks, it kind of defeats the purpose of having sand. Where will the wrasses go when they get scared, where will they sleep? Will the nassarius snails be able to do their job? I just don't like the idea of putting eggcrate in the botom of a tank....

You don't put it down over the whole tank, just cut outs where the rocks make contact with the glass.

I use egg crate over the whole bottom with a DSB. I've never had any worries.

I don't think wrasses or snails go all the way to the bottom of most DSBs. Wrasses are pretty much sleeping just under the surface.

You might want to drill some holes in the lr that you can put frag plugs in, otherwise it will take a lot of epoxy to secure everything.

Nah, just chop the "plug" part of a frag plug off, little super glue, little ball of Aquamend, little more super glue, and voila!
