Have not... I'd probably try it on a closed loop system rather than a return from the sump. Then, I can dial it up as high or as low as I wanted without disturbing my sump or overflowing my overflow...

I'm planning something similar for my 180 build. I hadn't planned on putting it all around the tank...just along the back with black pvc pipe then plumbed into the tank to give different circulation levels inside.

This..

For me, a return is a return, it's not a significant source of flow.

Correct. Especially if from a sump.

I have something like this on a canister filter for my FW tank.

I have 4 returns on a closed loop, which are then split into twos with locline. They are also on an oceans motions alternating between two of the returns at a time. Plenty of turbulence in the water, not to mention the awesome shimmer that it creates with my Radions. Really happy i did It this way. I usually turn off the reeflo which powers the closed loop and just leave on my return pump for feedings. Then when done I turn the reeflo back on and all the extra food will get churned back up and eventually get pulled into my filter socks.
