I am thinking about buying a house and my initial plumbing plan was to have my tank overflow out into the garage. It would have about a one foot drop from the bottom of the overflow to the top of the sump. However from my initial measurement it would be around a 8 foot run horizontal. Does anyone know any guidelines or rules of thumb that would say if this is ok or not?

no problems with horizontal runs... just try to keep as few turns as possible

There is a calculation for horizontal runs but to tell you the truth there is not much head to worry about unless you are running 20+ feet. I would say you should be ok. Like Tony said, may it a straight shot and you will be fine.

Just as both said horizontal no problems just don't go up or down or side to side.

I would still install the pipe with a slight fall(1/4-1/2") towards the sump.Couldnt hurt?
