Plumbing suggestions

I'm almost at the point to plumb the system and would like any suggestions. My goal is, I'd like to have all the plumbing in the sump area modular. Giving me the ability to valve off an isolate any given section of the plumbed system. To start, I don't plan on having an ATO system or automated dosing. In the future I'd like to add various reactors and a UV. So I'm trying to plan ahead. With just a basic sump setup (to start) i.e sump, fuge, skimmer, return pump (variable speed), does anyone see a need to add a gate valve? If I did add a gate valve, I'm thinking it would fall on the discharge side of the return pump... Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've planned ahead for (or gone ahead and done) several things I ended up never needing. As easy as it is to add or reconfigure additional plumbing to a simple system like that, I'm not sure I'd worry about it.

I don't have one and have never needed one. Someone may have completely </em>different advice, though, so don't take it as gospel :)

Gate valves can add a lot of pressure to the system depending on the one you use. Generally i use ball valves though not as precise they are cheaper and much easier to find. For more sensitive applications such as skimmers and reactors gate valves are nice. Ball valves usually work just fine for returns and chillers where don't need an exact flow rate.

Something like this?

ball-valves & unions (or better yet, true-union ball-valves) are great for isolating and removing equipment such as pumps or reactors etc for maintenance purposes.

Basically, if you think you ever need to remove it to repair/replace/maintain it, you need to be able to do so, so plumb in a union and a valve to keep the water where it belongs while the item is out.

The beauty of PVC plumbing is that it is generally very easy to alter after the fact.
