Pro/con of each?

I would think running the flexible pvc would minimize having to use elbows and help keep the gph up right?

First time plumbing a tank so any input is appreciated.

Thanks

There is some head loss due to elbows and 45s. If you go with hose don't use clear or algae will grow in it.

I hard piped mine but my pump is oversized.

Besides cost, flex PVC is the better alternative. You've mentioned the fact it minimizes elbows. It also reduces vibration. And when cementing multiple pieces, such as tees, 90s, valves etc, it becomes increasingly hard to get everything to line up straight, where flex avoids that. Rigid only really provides that cleaner look.

Here's an idea of what I have to plumb. That's a 6ft 210 and a 75gal sump down below.

Fowl - skimmer on the left return pump in the middle and fuge on the right. Should be minimal plumbing I hope

I used four elbows and didnt lose any head loss..the one thing I learned is to use 1inch pipe
Going to sump but only 3/4 going back up..worked like a charm..if youre building youre own sump be sure to check out
Melves reef...best site for sumps..
Make sure you put in bubble traps. I built the one with two intakes three chamber.skimmer chamber on left
Fuge on the right and return pump in the middle..I love it..be sure to use GE silicone #1.for doors and windows.not the bathroom one..Not #2 I made thst mistake.had to rip it all out and start over.good luck any questions feel free to ask.

Just thought i'd add to this. Probably your best bet would be to do a blend of rigid and pvc flex.

I went ahead and plumbed some of it; regular pvc for the return and spa flex for the drains.
