I have a 6wk old 75 gal FOWLR for now. 75 lbs lr, 20 lbs ls, skimmer, and canister filter full of lr. all chems look good. Wife and daughters impatient so have fish already and they are doing great. NOW the question is: I do not see many, sometimes none, pods on glass. How do I know if they are there or is this not a problem to worry about? I am planning to set up a sump/fuge in the near future.

It will probably take a bit more than 6 weeks for a brand new tank to really start seeing a consistent pod population. If you'd like to accelerate the process, make a small pile of smaller live rock pieces that none of your fish or inverts can get into. That, in addition to your canister filter, will provide a safe haven for pods to multiply.

You can dose phytoplankton to boost there food source also. This has boosted my pod population when I've done it in the past. Like Brandon said they come out at night, especially when there are fish in the tank. My fishless tank is packed with pods day and night.

since George mentioned my canister filter all it has is live rock and the sponges. How should I clean it.

Thanks for all of the great info. I hope I can come to the next meeting and meet some of ya'll
