Okay everyone so what do you think? I am poss. going to pu a sm. lionfish tomorrow from one of our sponsors. The fish is still eating feeder fish and is begining feed once a week. They are trying to convert it over to eat frozen. The fish is small. Anyone had any experience coverting a LF over to frozen? Thanks for all input in advance. Mike:shades:

Just know what you're getting into with a lion before you get it. They aren't reef friendly, are very messy eaters, leave a ton of waste, etc... Lots & lots of negatives. About the biggest positive on Lion Fish is that they taste better than chicken... (seriously, they are delicious)

Another pro for lions are that they are beautiful!

However, they get pretty big. You'd want at least a 90gallon- which would still be small for a full grown volitan lion.

Jeff his tank mates will be a niger trigger and a bluespotted puffer. I do WC on a weekly basis just with these two and they are pretty messy eaters...LOL

Dylan...this one looks like a baby LF it is very small. IT is suppose to be the smaller varitey of LF.

How do you feel about how hard it is going to be to wean it over to frozen food...like silver fish?

This is a FOWLR tank...NO coral or inverts.

from reading on RC, triggers are prolly the last thing you want to keep with a lion.

Why is it not good to keep these two together? Even when the niger trigger is the good manner one.

Ah okay, so you know the drill on messy eaters already.

There may be some territorial issues with the trigger depending on how large the tank is. With the trigger and the puffer, you're definitely going to want a BIG tank. Like 150+. They just get big.

I don't think that the trigger will outright kill the lion due to the venomous spines, but it will probably harrass the crap out of it.

Jeff...the trigger picks at no one in the tank...he is a model citizen. Why would he even what to harrass the LF? I have someone who told me the one that I might have problems with would be the puffer blowing toxins into the water with the LF. I don't know what to do. Just stick to waht I have and just buy frags for my frag tank...geez

what size tank is it?

a lot of people say the triggers are attracted to the wavy-ness of the lions fins

I have decided against it...just going to atlanta aq. coral sale instead...Thank you to everyone.

Mods. pls.close...thank you

The trigger will try to eat the spines off the lionfish making it defenseless. If you go to lionfishlair.com, a great source fo infor on lionfish and such, you can see the still shots of the video.

Thank you Butch...I have decided against it. Going to focus on the fish I have now and build up my frag tank.
