Alright, I have the tank...its a 40gBr 36x18x16. It's drilled, however it's drilled on the side about 11.5" up the tank. The hole is made for 1 1/2" pipe. Question....Do you drill another hole next to it and some how make an over flow...most likely will run the whole depth of the tank seeing how the drill is dead center.....or do you try to drill the bottom....Are these ever drillable on the bottom??? The tank came from Cap bay....perhaps someone who use to work there might be able to hint to me on that answer. If I can drill the bottom, do I do a center drill or just throw it off to the side? Depending on what I do, I'm going to need some acrylic, black preferably...anyone have some that I can purchase? Perhaps a call to the good people at MRC is in order. At any rate, the sump will be a 30g L which will be under the tank in the stand. What would you guys do?

Bottom can be drilled. We had 2 that were drilled on the bottom.

the AGA 40 gallon is not tempered on the bottom. John can get the acrylic. He built my overflow.

Salt water city will do it for you for less than the drill bits...

Heck, p;ut a 90 degree, strainer, and hide it with some rock, and thats an "overflow". I would do that before putting in a big overflow and drilling another hole. The less unnatrural in the tank, the better looking. At least to me.

You know, I was thinking about that Jeremy. The 1 1/2 elbow comes right up to surface but I guess I need to decide if I want to deal with seeing plumbing on the side of the tank.

I would make side with the hole in it the "back". Stick it in a corner and build you reef up kinda diagonally from the front corner to the back corner of the tank.

Lee, we have the drill bits and are not far from you. I'll find out the dimensions if you'd like to borrow them.

I drilled my 30 up top and added an external durso pipe for the overflow. add a U shaped connection for a return and it's done.
