Power Buy Calcium Reactor

With the upcoming power buy at BRS, I see this as a likely oppurtunity to finally break into the world of calcium reactors. I'd probably go with the dual chamber octopus if I decide to get one from them. Does anyone have any experience with these at all? If so, what did/do you think? Depending on how the finances play out, I might be able to get the regulator and the canister as well. Would I need anything else after that? Also, I've got quite a few snail shells and stuff I'd kept for hermits. Can some of the bigger ones be used up as media?

I second what Charlie said - you'd be much happier with an MRC one - it's just better quality all around.

Having a controller makes life 1000x times easier.

I've tried putting in shells, acro skeletons, and other large stuff, but nothing worked near as well as the "normal" media...

I was thinking MRC originally but was looking at the power buy as well. It would be a stretch anyway with Christmas coming. I'm just getting VERY tired of mixing kalk...lol.

Well, with you and Charlie recommending MRC, then I'll pass on the BRS reactor.

Thanks for the input on the shells. I'd always wondered that anyway.

With the controller, your talking about the shut-off, probes, etc. etc.?

I cant assure you that we will have a powerbuy with MRC but its one of my major goals. If we could couple this with a meeting/workshop on calcium reactors, I really think it would help a large amount of people and enable them to buy a calcium reactor and set it up with confidence.

In the mean time I would suggest looking at dosing two part.

That's an excellent idea for a power buy meeting combo. I'd even take a vacation day from work to make sure I could make that meeting. I love the idea.

I'd thought and looked into 2-part and was going to do it but, I've got my little method of kalk and mag on alternate days. I've got the routine down pretty good and can maintain without having to test water, etc etc. I decided if I changed from what I'm doing now, I'm just going to jump to the reactor. I get good growth and I'm sure it could and would be better but, I'm satisfied with how things are going and the fact that I've got my system in place.

PM sent.

Yup,
One of the meetings I am planning for 2010 will be a workshop, with at least one group focussing on reactors and such.
MRC would of course be the choice of speaker...

Thanks guys! Adding workshops like that would definately be helpful when it comes to things like reactors and such. Keep up the good work!
