Help!! Im about to start mixing my own saltwater, whats best to use in a 40 gallon container? Pump or power head?

You will want a pump. A power head is just for mixing, not moving the water to where you want it.

Internal with a hose attached is simpler and cheaper.

External with valves is nicer.

I use a powerhead to mic and a pump to get the water out. It would probably be smarter if I just used a pump (without the hose) to mix the water and plug a hose onto it to move it. Come to think of it, my way is kind of dumb. I think I went this way because I was using a Mag pump to mice and move but noticed the water was getting to warm in the summer with the heat the Mag pump added while mixing. Heck, I'm not sure. But I do know using single pump to mix and move the water would be simpler.

I just recently put a jebao DC pump on my mix tank. I just turn it mostly down for mixing and turn it back up for water changes. Its also cheap.
