Hi everyone,
I was just given a protein skimmer that needs a good powerhead with an adjustable flow speed. Can anyone suggest a good one they have used? This is going on a 40gal FOWLR dt. Thanks Mike:fish:

Hey, Man...

You are needing a water pump for the protein skimmer? What model skimmer is it? Is it going to be running in your sump, external, HOB?

Thanks...

Cedz this is the link for the one I was given

Ok. I see what you are saying... I tried to zoom in to see the model number of the existing pump, but couldn't.

Judging from the comments, on that page, if it takes 3/4 inch plumbing, you can just replace the adjuster with a 3/4 inch gate valve. Other than that, look up the model number of the powerhead, and just order one a little larger (700-770 gph will give you about a 50% increase) if you decide to keep this skimmer. Just make sure that all of the parts will interchange so the new one will fit the existing parts. Shouldn't be that hard of a find. Just looks like a small mag pump from what I can see on the pictures. Make sure you don't get a powerhead too strong and overpower your skimmer body. If you have it with you, you can post the numbers on the existing pump, and hopefully google will tell us what we are dealing with up front...

I haven't heard much about that particular skimmer, so it's a little challenging to shoot off some advice, but, I hope I've helped...

I will look at it and see if I can exchange the gate valve and also get the model name and number and see what can be done. I will keep it if I can get it to work well. Tight budget and a disabled Navy man. Thanks again Mike

40gal...2 HOB filters...Canister filter...koraline powerhead....and the protein filter if I can get it running.
Made by Jebo its a 2003 submer. pump
32 watts
max head 1.8 meters
flow max: 2000

thanks for the info urchin

I would just adapt a ball valve to it to make it work. Is it the one off the powerhead? If so, I think I might have one of those here. Will look in my "goodies box" tomorrow.

It looks like the pump says 2003 submersible force pump. I googled it and other skimmers use a "2003 Force Pump". You could probably use a sicce sk200 skimmer pump. They work well and are really quiet.

I think I am going to take it with me to Home Depot or Lowes tomorrow and see if I can find a gate valve to adapt to it to make a new flow adjuster. Thanks to everyone again. Mike

I guess I need to refresh the page before posting if its been a bit since I looked at the page. The other posts giving you the make of pump were not on my screen and so I thought I was giving you info you didn't have lol.
