I am moving soon and have been taking down my setup. How do I clean the live rock and sand so it does not stink up in storage and is ready to go when I start up again? Thanks!

Rinse the sand heavily until there is no more crap in it. Lay it out to dry in the sun and allow it time to dry completely before putting it away. As for the live rock, you can bleach it but that requires a lot of rinsing. You can boil it which is probably the preferred method. Make sure to mechanically remove any algae. Rinse well, dry in the sun and store the same as the sand.

+1

i would bleach the rock though is is a lot easier than boiling ive done both and then rinse with hose and let dry in the sun

Bleach the rock, use plain bleach w/o surfactant ( Do not use products like Clorox Clean Up or Tilex)

Dilute well in water ( 1 to 2 cups bleach per 5 gallons of water)

Soak, then rinse if you want, bleach breaks down to salt and water. It's going into storage, so all chlorine will break down long before it will be used again....

I'm about to do the same thing......

ya i put about a half gallon of bleach in a 35 gallon plastic tote and filled with water then let soak for about 3 hours then rinsed but bleach will break down it a few days faster if in the sun
