We are having a stand and canopy built for our 65 gallon. I have seen some pictures on this site where people have put some sort of white primer inside their cabinet. Is it special primer? Would I also need it for inside of the Canopy to protect against the salt?

Thanks for any information.

I use kilz also but I use the latex Kilz 2 just because it is easier.

The oil based will give you better protection.

Go with latex, especially since you will be using white. Oil based products yellow over time and will always look dirty.

Is the general consensus to leave it Kiltz White? Or, can I put a final coat of black to match the outer stand?

go with white inside the stand. white reflects light where blk absorbs light.
you will see a difference when lighting a sump down below of accessing the lower stand for any reason.
about to do my 120 stand and hood this very way today.

Kilz is only a primer/ sealer and a good one at that but is not designed for a final topcoat. It can and usually will become chalky and fade away .To get the best protection you will need to put a final coat on as well. A gloss paint tends to clean easier and offers better moisture resistance.
