Someone on here (I think it was a sponsor) made a probe holder that was adjustable in height? Can someone point me to that?

I remember seeing the pic and everything but cant find the thread.

thx.

bump.....or can anyone tell me what size bit to use for standard PH and Temp probes and how they stay in the hole?

i would find the drill bit that is close then hold it in place with an o-ring

hmm good call.....would it be tough to find an o-ring that small? maybe in plumbing?

automotive parts stores usually have an assortment of o-rings, from small to large.

Super-cheap probe holder: piece if styrofoam (ie from a fish box) with holes poked in it for the probes, floating in your sump.

That's how I've done it in a pinch before ;)

thats awesome, i wish i would have thought of that

lol....that is pretty innovative jenn

actually, I have some left over acrylic from a sump I had built and wanted to make a probe holder.......thanks Jt for the o-ring suggestion.....that seems like a perfect idea.

Where I used to work that's how they did it. Water level in the sump was constant (ATO) but at least with it floating like that, there's no worry if the sump level varies a bit, and it keeps the top ends of the probes dry.

We kept some probes here for someone who was moving and did the same thing (keep the probes wet - if they dry out they are done)... just floated his styro holder in our system, til he was ready to set up again.

Cheap (free), easy... effective. No need to stress - and if the thing gets broken or grubby, just make another one ;)

There is a compression fitting in the HD electronics department that holds a probe just fine and it's watertight!!!

I worked in research for years, and always said that the best ideas are the one's where people see it and say..."now why didn't I think of that?"

This is one of those! Thanks!

LOL well I didn't think of it... but I've borrowed the idea. A customer of mine had a fancy-schmancy acrylic probe holder but the probes kept coming out of it (turbulence in the sump)... eventually he went low-tech on his probe holder too ;)

I think you and I may have discussed how easy it is to over-engineer an aquarium, before! I now prefer the low tech approach.

LOL! Yeah, I am a fan of the K.I.S.S. principle. I do enjoy reading about folks' own tweaks and nuances though. And yes, sometimes some things get over-thought - this isn't necessarily one of them... but for a quick fix (or a permanent one) - this low-tech solution works about as well as the more costly/shiny one :D
