So, I was out on a business trip for like 5days and had to leave the tank (pretty much unsupervised - Erifc came to feed it twice).

Returning last night late from NY I noticed that a familiar sound wasn't there when I entered the basement.
My 90-gal frag system lost powere due to a tripped GFCI (culprit seems to be the CL pump).
The tank was about half empty and the sump shorlty before overflowing - (apparently one overflow box has a slight leak).
My PC4 controlling lights and heaters is in another GFCI and stayed on, the pumps all turned off when the GFCO tripped.

Long story short,
the tank got to 72F and the sump to 84F in the far end and 93F in the heater section. Basically the probe fell dry and let the heater stay on. With no flow between them it got VERY hot...

I didn't see any casualties last night - but pretty sure 1" of water and a 250W halide on for 7hrs will take its toll.

The entire room smelled like ammonia from the rock that fell dry.

Let's see what the status is tonight when I get home

dude - that sucks!! right here is where I would list what I would do but im sure you already have a good idea how to make things more redundant....

I would do a water change and add some stability, and maybe reef biogest, too!

ROb, I have about 40 gallons of newly mixed salt water and another 40G of RO ready if you need some more water for the changes. Not sure where you live but if you are in Acworth you can't be too far away. LMK if you need any.

Aw, hate to hear that Robb..If I can be of any help please let me know! Hopefully everything will be ok

Robb, let me know if you need me to come over and help with anything!

I'm taking some Prime over when I go by tonight... can't hurt to bind up the ammonia, and I know Rob will be on the WC.

Sorry to hear that Robb.

I had a similar experience this weekend where the level in my display seemed to have dropped 6" somehow. No tripped GFCIs, both my return pumps were cavitated (not pumping). Still can't figure out what happened. I lost the tips of several acro colonies... :(

BTW, set the built in thermostat on your heater to ~80. This way if your controller gets stuck on again, the heater will only heat up your sump to 80.

When I got to Rob's house, the livestock in the tank actually looked pretty darned good. Fish were active and breathing calmly, corals were open. It seemed like everything is going to be fine.
