PROS AND CONS OF EMPEROR ANGEL

Hello fellow reefers and saltwater aquarium enthusiasts! Me and wife have been in the hobbie for few months now! We have an emperor angel in our tank and I love him but with the recent addition of some new corals, I've noticed him munching the polyps or heads off!!! Anyone have this issue and if im doing a reef tank will I need to consider rehoming him??? Thank you everyone and have a great evening!

Angels have always been a fowlr fish for me, besides my flame angel they always have liked to much on my coral

They aren't iffy. Angels are not reef safe save a few rare exceptions in the dwarf angel category and the swallowtail angel. Emperors are not reef safe. They will decimate corals.

I always heard this species was especially bad at munching on coral, especially when they get older.

Yeah unfortunately that's what I had heard

That’s what they probably eat in the wild , now one feeding the ocean pellets and krill

Emperors like most large angels are omnivorous, meaning they graze on a variety of both plant & animal organisms, including tunicates, algae, sponges, bryozoans, hydroids & unfortunately corals.
