I was looking at aquarium sand online and this popped up, says it's sold at homedepot. Has anyone tried this before?

I would never put that stuff in my tank. You have no idea what kind of contaminates might be in it. It's best to stick to substrate specially harvested for marine aquaria, IMO.

I agree with you on this I'd rather spend the money and not worry about what might happen, I was just curious if anyone had every tried it

I would imagine that you wouldn't want to use it even if you knew it was free of contaminates. Limestone is REALLY good at raising the PH level of just about whatever it touches. It's PH is somewhere near 10 if I remember correctly.

Limestone is rock made from calcite/aragonite which is CaCO3.

Aquarium sand for reef tanks is calcite/aragonite which is CaCO3.
