Is there any difference in the personality or hardiness between the purple and orange firefish?

I have two orange (red?) left (one was a jumper, and missed the tank). From what I've heard, both the purple and red firefish are very hardy. I have heard that the purple don't tend to tolerate eachother very well, though.

There were three red in my 120g that got along just fine. I'd only see one dart at the other once every blue moon. Had them since around March of this year, I guess, and I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've seen them dart at eachother.

If introduced at the same time, purple firefishes can co-exist. I have a purple firefish and he's awesome.....a little bit on the skittish side but it's purdy.

Btw, I see mine all the time as it likes to swim against the current.

Yup. Mine are out all of the time too until I turn the lights out. Then they hide in the rock to sleep...

They will eat anything too. Even a bugger if it is bite-size. Anything bigger than that, I eat myself. Jk. LOL...

Yes I am planning on adding them at the same time. I think the purple are prettier too but I'm hesitant to spend the extra money when I know they are jumpers and can hide a lot if they aren't comfortable. I've got a full canopy but I think I need to cover up my overflow and fan vents.

Let me elaborate. They can be jumpers, but mine was in a big plastic tub when he jumped out. Never had any problems when they were in my 120g...

They do hide when the lights go out. When I turn the lights back on, they are usually the first fish out of the rock, and will stay out in full view until the lights go back out...

Mine were also added at the same time as kf2008 stated...

Perhaps a DIY mesh top would alleviate some concerns. I bought fish mesh from Dave and built a screen without any problems.

IMHO, spend the extra money if you can and enjoy the purple.....colors are awesome and given time, they will get used to your system and venture out.

Btw, trying to catch an unwanted fish is brutal.....for that reason alone, it is enough for me to get what I really want!
