Just got a two tilefish from the lfs. One is a purple tilefish and the other just has a blue line on top of his head and the body was white. Just wondering if anyone has had an experience with one? The purple one is swimming around the tank and the other one is MIA. I have tops on my tank so I know it could not have jumped out. I am hoping that it must of burrowed itself. Any input would help. Thanks

I have seen these fish launch themselves over 6 feet through the air out of an aquarium. At $60 each at the time, that was an expensive proposition for me. I decided not to keep them unless in a fully hooded tank with covered/screened overflows. They are beautiful though.
-FWIW

Good luck

6 feet? that's pretty high. Well my tank is not a RR tank and was drilled. I put the glass tops back on and they are pretty heavy so then won't we able to bust out of that.

So I woke up this morning and and saw my purple tilefish looking like this. Does anyone know what it could be?

Hmmm...

Tough call from the pic but my first thought was Amyloodinium, or Marine Velvet.

That's tough to treat too. Would have to be treated in a quarantine tank, for sure.

I googled and found this article: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=16+2160&aid=2428">http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=16+2160&aid=2428</a>

Not sure I'd agree that copper is the best treatment though... we've used Rally (by Ruby Reef) with some success.

IME all the fish need to be treated because some will carry it but not show symptoms. This stuff can move fast and cause major wipe-outs :(

Here's info on Ruby Reef Rally: [IMG]http://www.rubyreefinc.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51:rally&catid=35:documentation&Itemid=56">http://www.rubyreefinc.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51:rally&catid=35:documentation&Itemid=56</a>

Again - any treatment MUST be done in a quarantine tank, and I'd recommend treating all of the fish so you don't have recurrences.
