So I'm running a quarantine tank that gets an automatic 2 gallon water change daily via the DOS system which is running great. The problem I am having is the qt tank is empty right now so it's filthy, so my question is what is the best way to keep that tank clean when it's not being used.thanks in advance for any advice

I'm sorry when I say empty I mean no fish in it, it still has 40 gallons of water in it where 2 gallons of water gets pumped out of it each day

Turn any lights off to start. How filthy? Dust from sand? Cyano? Detritus?

My advice is that "dirty" doesnt mean unhealthy. In fact, usually the opposite. Algae is a natural, normal, healthy thing.

I guess it all depends on what you mean by "dirty"

You can also vacuum the detritus up. Passive water changing is one thing, but in any tank, if the detritus isn't exported, it can affect the water quality.

Just wipe the glass and vacuum the junk up. I agree that 'dirty' doesn't necessarily mean bad, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of normal housekeeping.

OK thank you I will do that. Just wondering should I get some snails to put in there
