ordered 3 fish from nyaquatics chocolate tang, lyretail anthias and fairy wrasse last monday arrived tuesday 2 hours late from fedex they looked ok so they went into QT the 2 days later i added a naso tang very nice specimen the next day is when all the trouble started it started with the chocolate tang his eye looked kinda cloudy and he didn't wanna eat was recommended on another forum to get erythromycin so i ordered of chewy by the 2nd day is eye was completely clouded and his other eye was getting cloudy tried freshwater dip then put him into another QT by the time the antibiotic arrived his eye was bleeding and he was just crashing into the sides of the tank i dosed his QT with the biotic but by then it was too late he died that afternoon and the lyretail anthias died the same day now this morning the wrasse is dead and the naso tang is acting weird hiding in the corner

ive tried dosing metroplex today i already gave them a dose of prazi the day his eye was cloudy i also dosed cupramine 1/4th of the dose for this size QT will give the second dose to bring it to half therapeutic this evening r2r and humble fish seem to think its bacterial i really dunno what else to treat them for i also dosed ruby reef rally today not really sure what else to do just venting i guess if the naso dies ill out 450 dollars for all these fish :(

I guess the silver lining is if i put them directly into my display tank all my fish would be dying as well

sorry for your loss.

i would recommend use two smaller QT setups (not knowing what size tank you currently have) or more. i have 2x 20gal and 3x 10gal tank for QT purposes and they don't cross contaminate in any way.

the 20gals are obviously used to host big fishes and the smaller ones are for TTM, ideally for wrasses/anthias. but i use them according to what i need at the moment.

citric acid/vinegar bath/sunbath after i'm done.

In my experience a cloudy eye is usually accompanied by something also on the fishes body. Anecdotal but usually it’s marine velvet. Might explain the sudden quick fatalities.

thanks for the suggestion i have 55G i use for my main QT but i also have a smaller 10g that i use as a QT as well but i guess i will get a 20g and use for a second QT so this doesnt happen again

you may have hit it on the money thats what im thinking maybe one of the fish i got from online had velvet or brook because i didn't even begin to treat them for anything before this all started i generally treat with metroplex and prazi ive never had to treat any fish for copper i just monitor

the naso tang now is up and swimming after i dosed ruby reef rally + metroplex + 1/4th dosage of copper im sure they couldnt have worked that fast but its a promising sign maybe i can save him

Just noticed that my trigger has a cloudy eye and some white on the top of his head. :(

Not sure what it is, he’s swimming fine and still eats like a pig. I’m going to pull him and put him in QT, not sure what I’ve got med wise though. Haven’t added any fish to the tank in at least a month. Guess it could have come in on a frag from or coral from somewhere, I dip everything that goes in the tank coral wise too though. Of course, coral dip probably doesn’t kill off all fish parasites.

your scenario happened to me as well 2 years ago. i had 3 purple tangs, half dozen anthias, another half dozen wrasses, some other misc fishes throughout the 2-year cycle that i decided if i ever qt again, everything will be separated and monitored closely

Did it look similar to this? Just took this pic... bad thing is, my son’s graduation starts in 2 hours so I’ve got to figure something out pretty quick. :(

That looks like he forgot how to fish and scrapped his head.

What I’m talking about looked more like this:

Not taking any chances. He’s been pulled and is in an IM 20 by himself. I’m soaking some Mysis in garlic guard with Metronidazole, I’m sure he’ll every bit of it.

This is how bad his eyes looked before I put him into a different qt no spots like velvet though so that's what has me confused how fast all the fish died it had to be velvet/brook plus a bacterial infection this is all just me guessing though

Was it breathing heavy? Velvet basically suffocates the fish to death from what I’ve read. A mucus coats their gills and it isn’t able to get oxygen.

I’m no where near the level of expert humble fish is on r2r so take my theory with a grain of salt.

it wasnt that heavy until it got really bad but by then i think it was stressed no obvious markings or spots to show velvet thats what has me stumped the lyretail had no clear markings either the wrasse before it died had some sort of white growth on its back when velvet hit my DT back in november wiped out my entire tank they all had all the symptoms of velvet hiding and swimming into the powerhead flow spots like ich but tons of them cloudy eyes this time it wasnt anything like that they all died just as quick

Ugh, so sorry for your losses again!

This is primarily the reason why I run the aggressive QT method and dose CP and Metro at the same time. I get the arguments against it, but it's just not worth playing fish doctor. And... I don't nearly have that much invested in my fish. My risk tolerance for fish disease is extremely low.

i want to use cp but i can never find a good source for it because i read its better to use then copper

Oof, let me clarify. To me CP (caps) is Copper Power. Not chloroquine phosphate.

I use Copper Power because it's easy to measure, works well with the Hanna copper checker, and is compatible with Prime to eliminate ammonia concerns. Also is fine with Metro dosing at the same time.

Different fish react with the various treatments. Copper Power (chelated copper) seems to be the most universal for my selected fish. Chloroquine is bad juju for wrasses. This handy dandy chart is handy dandy.

Well i found the naso tang dead this morning as well laying on its side both eyes cloudy he was in .35 cupramine and i had already given him 1 dose of metro i think maybe i should have dosed furan-2 as well im not sure i just didn't know what treat them for besides the eye cloud he had no outward signs of disease so this is a real mystery i guess i wont ever know for sure what they had time to sterilize my QT i guess :(
