I am going to set up a quarantine system and treat everyone before entry to my display. So, I have a couple questions ---

I'm a little confused about filtration. Should I just do sponge filters ? How long do these need to be in my sump before they would be ready to use in the QT? Any other filters recommended ?

If I get all the fish out of my display - any ICh should die off in 6-8 weeks (78 degrees), correct?

How often should I do water changed in the QT?

Thanks guys!

It depends....I use Seachem matrix rocks and place them in Tupperware in my sump for 2 weeks, then place in QT tank. I also add stability (tiny amounts daily), and twice daily water changes (10%), but I am feeding 10-12 times a day as I am also conditioning a new fish, not messes scarily treating sick fish, albeit I do treat praziquantel twice. So, there is plenty of information out there, and you'll want to customize for your situation.

You can use sponge filters if you wish - or Matrix like Ralph does. There are many ways to run a QT but one way or another you do want some biological media that's already cycled.

Stability is a great product for this process - I'd also keep some Prime or Alpha handy in case of ammonia or nitrite - they don't make it 'go away' but they do bind it up and render it less toxic so it's a good 'band-aid' to have on hand, plus it helps promote the fishes' slime coat which helps lesions heal.
