Question about my L R

This is my 2nd saltwater tank I've done , my question is my LR is turning white ! My tank with LR in it has been up and still in process of cycling for 4wks now , my water : nitrate 5.0 , ammonia is 0.60 , salinity 1.024 , temp. 77f , my test result from API reef masters test kit and the LFS test was pretty close to the same as mine . my last tank with LR in it didnt do this , what you guys think ?

Where did you get the live rock from? Locate store or mail order? how did you get it to your house? in water? what kind of light do you have on it? sounds like some of it is dying out maybe from transport?

I got the LR from LFS in the box they just got in , my lights are MH 250 thats not on much of the time

That's the problem. That rock more than likely sat on a boat for a few weeks wrapped in damp newspaper, which is not enough to keep it alive. Now most of it will die off and be bleached out. Watch out for ammonia spike.

Ok so if the LR do bleach out ! then what ? I have roughly 100lb of it ,like I said I never went through the process of all of my rocks bleaching out ! Do I keep doing water changing ( its a 210gal by the way ) 2nd get more rock & start cure it in another container ? I'm not trying to rush through this , I understand it takes awhile to cycle sometimes

If the other rock didn't do it then it didn't have the die off this rock is having. If you buy more rock in a box it should be cured in a separate tank so you don't kill anything from the ammonia spike.

I would let nature run it's course. Monitor your nitrogen cycle and wait. There isn't going to be much you can do about it anyway. I wouldn't worry about changing the water unless the ammonia levels get really high. I'm assuming you haven't put any livestock in.

thanks for the input , & no I havent put any life stock in
