I really want to have a 120g, but I don't want to buy a house. Does anyone live in the Dunwoody area and have a nicely sized tank? How do you handle not ruining the floors? What's the name of your apartment complex?
My moms friend lives in an apartment and he had a 125gallon and is now upgrading to a 200gallon. He is on the bottom floor. That's all I really know... What story would you be on.
You need to be very careful; especially in Georgia. Make sure you read over your lease agreement about pets. Also, I would highly recommend [renter's insurance] if your apartment complex allows water filled aquariums. If your above the ground floor, I wouldn't have any aquariums at all. [just my 1/2 cent]
100 years ago I had about 4 tanks up to 55 gallons (and a waterbed) in a 9th floor apartment. I know the waterbed was against the rules - but I knew lots of people that had them in that building - it was the 80s!).
I don't recommend breaking the rules - like others have said, check your lease.
Renter's insurance is a MUST (even without an aquarium - insure your stuff!) BE SURE that there is a water escape rider in your policy. Depending on the carrier/policy some cover it some don't so be sure you have it IN WRITING that you're covered if your tank bursts/leaks, you leave your RO unit running etc.
Renter's insurance is cheap - cheaper than a decent protein skimmer. Heck it's cheaper than a crappy protein skimmer. There's no excuse not to have it. It can save your bacon if something bad happens.
