My laptop dosen't have a serial port, onlu usb and phone type jacks for internet... Can i hook the phone type cord to my jack on my laptop or is there some kind of adapter to go from the serial jack to usb?

sorry, Frank... bad news

RK-II won't work on your laptop, so you'll just have to give it to me....

:D

Several computer parts companies make USB to serial converter dongles. Belkin makes one that we have had success with at my law firm.

Google is a wonderful thing.

USBtoSerial.asp

I would contact digital aquatics and see which adapters they have tested with their products, if any. usb to serial adapters are notorious for sporadic compatibility. If they haven't tested any with their products then I would suggest getting an adapter from a reputable company and not some cheapy adapter

what he said.

and, "dongles", what a cool word :)

You will need a ground loop isolator to connect directly to a computer otherwise the pH (or was it temp?) readings will bounce all over.

Digital Aquatics sells one for cheap: http://www.digitalaquatics.com/m_product_info.php?part_number=30-0010-000">http://www.digitalaquatics.com/m_product_info.php?part_number=30-0010-000</a>

Alternatively, if you want a remote, wireless option, you can get a Bluetooth serial adapter.
