Question for you Blenny owners

One of the reasons I got into this hobby (besides growing corals) is to one day own a Midas Blenny. I love their beautiful colors and the way they swim. I am now finally to the point where I can get one! :yay:

I am looking at buying a Midas Blenny, Canary Blenny, or Bi-Color Blenny. Does anyone own one? Any positive or negatives with owning them? I know they will jump and have taken care of that already. Is there another fish like these I might like?

A diamond goby or another sand sifter is a neat fish that is a lot of fun to watch.

Not to discourage you.....ever blenny I have owned ended up in reef heaven. I have a problem getting them to eat, even though I have a lot of pods reproducing in my tank. They are beautiful and good luck!

Ha I guess I should have included a fish list.

This is what I have so far:
4.5" Diamond Goby (one of my favorite so far BTW)
4" Hippo Tang
3" Yellow Tang
A pair of False Percula CF 2.5" and 3"
1" blue green Chromis
5" Melanurus Wrasse (This guy is a beast)

I also have a few coral frags but that's it. My tank is 5' long 120 gal just so you know.

I have a Midas and he's my favorite fish. Tons of personality and he comes out to show himself every time I come near the tank. I love their colors and their blue eyes.

Just looked those up, might have to add them to the list :fish:. Still looking on more info. Can you mix different Blennies? Say I want a Bi-Color and a Midas or a Canary and a tail spot? Is there any negatives with these fish besides jumping and maybe not being hardy? Is there any other fish they do not get along with besides themselves?

I had a Lawnmower Blenny and a Midas Blenny at the same time and didn't have any issues. I have tons of hidey-holes in my rock though, and I believe that plays a big part. Based on my experience, and the available real estate in your tank, I'd say you'd probably be okay with a couple Blennies.

I've got a 125 (4*2*2) started off with a bicolor for about a year and just got a lawn mower. The lawn mower has been in for almost 2 month and havn't had a problem, though I've got a lot of hidy spot as well. I've got a canopy so jumping has never been a issue for me.

The one fish that has died on me so far in this tank was a lawnmower blenny. He ate all the algae in the new tank and I couldnt get him to eat anything else once the tank stabilized and algae disappeared.

You should have better luck with a bicolor. A starry(?) blennie is a cool fish too and I am a sucker for jawfish.

I have a tailspot. Absolutely adore him! He eats pellets as well! Tons of personality and beautiful coloring.

I have decided to go with a Midas and a Bicolor. I think the tailspot looks cool but I want something a little larger.
Any good local online stores I can order from? It's actually cheaper to pay for shipping than to drive to Atlanta! If anyone is placing an order soon let me know.

On a side note I noticed the Midas Blenny is seasonal, as in you can't buy them all the time. Anyone know why that is?

If you are willing to consider any gobies check out the catalina goby. Very pretty fish with lots of character.

That is a pretty fish just a little small for what I want right now. If I make a nano in the future I will def put one in there.:up:

On a side note, im just looking for Blennies right now. I will post another thread in about a month asking about everyone's favorite Goby.:tongue:

Still cant decide on a Tailspot or a Bicolor to go with a Midas. Is there any negatives with either the Tailspot or Bicolor?

Catalinas are temperate fish, won't last long in a tank at near 80 F
